The Mount Epomeo Trail

The Epomeo, standing 789 metres above sea level, is the symbolic mountain on the island of Ischia and hides mystical and fantastic stories. With suitable shoes and hat on your head, set off from Serra Fontana to reach the summit; the first stretch of road is accessible to vehicles and is bordered by tall chestnut trees, then walk along the ancient mule track leading to the summit, the first part of which is in the shade, while the second part is sunny but enchanting. Once you reach the summit, you will find yourself before a breathtaking view; your gaze will be lost in the distance and, by moving a few metres, you will have a complete panorama of the whole island.

The Alum Trail

A walk in the hills between Lacco Ameno and Casamicciola, with evocative views, will lead you to the discovery of beautiful places from a naturalistic and historical point of view. In fact, in the 16th century, a small economy grew here, which was based on alum rock mining, a salt that was extensively used in the past: it was used to dye wool and was also used as a haemostatic in the medical field. It is still used today to fight bad smells.

The White Lace of Serrara Fontana

This is not just a naturalistic itinerary but something more: it is an art exhibition by mother nature, who has carved white, tuff megaliths in this remote corner of the island of Ischia. Visitors arrive here from a country lane, surrounded by the usual beauty of the Mediterranean scrub and, along the way, nothing would lead them to imagine that, shortly thereafter, a lunar landscape with a metaphysical beauty will appear before their eyes.
